This amazing vintage portrait is an original artwork by a well known Soviet Ukrainian artist Anatoly Shkurko (1924 - 2019). This work was painted in 1957 and was signed on the back side. It was acquired from the private collection of the Shkurko’s family.

About the artist:

Shkurko Anatoly (1924 - 2019).
Anatoly Shkurko was born on October 29, 1924 in the village of Smolin, Chernigiv region. Since 1930, the artist's family moved to the city of Chernigiv.
In 1939, Anatoly Shkurko entered the Kharkov Art School, but the war prevented him from completing his studies.

Shkurko was a participant in the Second World War. The artist went as a soldier the way from Lubech to Berlin, and was awarded military awards and medals.
From 1946 to 1951, Shkurko studied at Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture named after I.Repin. His teachers were: R.Franz, D.Olkhovsky, I.Sorokin.
He worked in the field of easel painting, his main genres were thematic painting, landscape, portrait.

Since 1960 he had been a member of the Union of Artists of Ukraine.
Shkurko has participated in art exhibitions since 1954. He has held many solo exhibitions. In 1996, the artist was awarded the honorary title of Honored Artist of Ukraine. In 1996 he became a laureate of the Chernigov Regional Prize named after M. Kotsyubinsky. In 2009 Shkurko Anatoly Nikiforovich was awarded with the title "People's Artist of Ukraine".

A.Shkurko's artworks are represented in the Chernihiv Art Museum, galleries and private collections in Ukraine and abroad.

The artist Shkurko lived and worked in the town of Chernigiv, died in 2019.
