Taking inspiration from Darwin’s travels around the world and of the intricate illustrations he made on his trip, this design pays homage to the early use of colour pigments to describe the treasures of the natural world. In a historical nod to Darwin’s time, it has been only partially coloured – during this era paints were very expensive, and many paintings were left unfinished. This print is part of the Spectrum story of our Spring/Summer 2024 collection - influenced by eclectic modern art movements, from the bold complementary hues of Fauvism to the synesthete musicality of the Orphists, with designs paying tribute to a vibrant array of colourful phenomena and pigment conception.
