Vintage rabbit kogo incense holder

$250 SGD

A quaint kogo in the shape of a lucky rabbit. Rabbits, in Japan, are thought to make bad luck disappear! It is hand molded Tanba ware and was made to celebrate the Year of the Rabbit. The characteristic burnt orange glaze on the natural clay background and it’s rough texture from the firing process, give it a nice earthy, rustic feel.
The rabbit stands on it’s hind legs, curiously looking around, head held high sniffing the air.

Circa 1980s.

The kogo is made by artists at Tanba pottery kiln and comes in it’s original wooden storage box. ‘Eto usagi kogo, Tanba Togei’ (Year of the Rabbit incense holder, Tanba ware), has been written on the lid of the box. On the base of it’s foot there is a dent which is not a chip. It is in great condition.
